Recently, a very civic minded eleven-year-old Forest Pines resident, Leah Honeycutt, decided to act for the neighborhood with a very tasty idea. She set up shop in her front yard and many from the neighborhood stopped by for lemonade, cookies, and dog treats. Leah raised a total of $150! How amazing is that! We interviewed Leah and here is what she had to say:

What inspired you to start raising money for our neighborhood? I care a lot about my neighbors and they do a lot for me so I wanted to do something nice in return.

Can you tell me about the specific project or cause in our neighborhood that motivated you to take action? Safety.

How did you come up with the idea for your fundraising initiative? Everyone is a fan of lemonade on a hot Houston day and we have a lot of dog lovers in the neighborhood, so I thought why not cookies and lemonade for the neighbors and dog treats for their pets.

What are some of the goals you hope to achieve with the money you raise for our neighborhood? Receiving security cameras and speed bumps, the speedbumps to help slow down the fast drivers in our neighborhood and the cameras for keeping watch.

How do you feel knowing that your efforts are making a positive impact on our community? Very proud. The total amount of money that we made goes to show how many neighbors care for our neighborhood, and care for one another about keeping each other safe.
